I’m a girl that loves some good threads. Well…the last ten years I’ve been slowly realizing how I spend 89% of my day in costumes and yoga pants but hey, I still enjoy prancing around in heels or a sweet summer dress. I’ve been downsizing my closet the last 5 years as I focused all my shopping for new kicks and gear to my son, love seeing him all decked out. You know what I mean moms, kids got priority. So as I’m purging old stuff that sits for seasons and doesn’t get any love, a trip to donate to Goodwill prompted my friend to share her discovery of this documentary called “The True Cost”. She recently graduated from fashion design school and started an amazing recycled fashion boutique with really unique items.
That’s how I was woken up. I hope by now you all have heard some part of the bad news….we are KILLING our planet. And each other, but these mass shootings are nothing compared to the thought of wiping out the whole human race. Where was it that I read someone’s prediction about us having 30 years left?!? Scary.
Personally, I’m not on the bandwagon that naive is bliss. Knowledge is power and we can make a change. So, enough about how bad things are and that we NEED to not be ignorant….we can carry on about that later. Listen to this fact….the fashion industry is the SECOND leading cause of pollution on the planet. Only a small percent of the clothes you donate are actually being purchased or utilized in any way. Most of them end up in landfill. Crazy, right?! Attempting to be a do-gooder but really just adding to the mess. There is so much information in this documentary. I was inspired. After just getting ready to launch my new fitness and dancewear fashion line, I took a step back to think about what else I could do. New ideas in the mix, so stay tuned. There are a lot of options on how to look good, feel great, not pollute, and most importantly…move. When in doubt, just dance without clothes. Add some paint if you fancy, my friend Robin started an awesome body painting company called Skin City (her website below).
